Palery Manikyam the great movie

Ranjith’s ‘Palery Manikyam, Oru Pathirakolapaathakathinte Katha’ delivers what was expected out of it. Scripted well and narrated in an excellent manner, the film begins in the 1950’s, then brings us to the present and then shuttles between the past and the present and in between narrating an interesting story, makes references to many things of social and political significance. A film that stands out in quality, ‘Palery Manikyam…’ is in fact multilayered and works on different planes. But whether the film will work out at the box office is uncertain.
The story begins in the 1950’s in Palery, when a young girl Manikyam (Mythili) is found dead in the most mysterious of manners one night. The very same night, a young guy is found dead by the river in the village. And the very same night, a child is born in the village.
Cut, to the present. The child that was born on that day is now a grown up man, Haridas (Mammootty). Haridas, an investigator based in Delhi, sets out to unravel the mysteries surrounding the death of Manikyam, the 20-year old girl who died, or perhaps was killed, the very same night he was born. He is accompanied by Sarayu (Gauri Munjal), a crime analyst, with whom Haridas, who is married and has a family of his own, has an affair. Haridas, when he makes his exploration into the happenings that happened over half a century back, seems to be seeing it all as happening in front of his eyes. (The film merges the past and present in a single frame in a brilliant manner). Things move on, from one character to another and it all takes a twist with the introduction of Ahmed Haji (Mammootty), a rich landlord who lived in the 1950’s. The revelation that Haridas makes about Ahmed Haji sort of startles and shocks Sarayu. And from here the story takes off, to end in a totally unpredictable and impressive manner.
It’s the over-all structure and the narration that makes ‘Palery Manikyam…’ stand out among the films that come out these days. The strain that Ranjith, his team and the producers Maha Subair and A.V.Anoop have taken to make this film a reality has to be appreciated. But since the film doesn’t have much of the usual box office kind of ingredients, it may not work out with Mammootty fans or the lovers of commercial movie. But still, it’s definitely one of those films which could effect a change in the sensibilities of the average Malayalee film viewers. Hats off to Ranjith and crew.

Christian Brothers: Joshie's Multi starrer

Joshei's multi starrer with Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Dileep and Tamil star Arjun will start shooting from November 15th. The movie will mark Kavya Madhavan’s comeback to films. She is the heroine of Mohanlal. The last movies they worked together were Maadambi and Twenty 20, which were well appreciated.

The film also has Padmapriya who play the role of Mohanlal’s sister and Kavya will play the role of his wife on screen. Suresh Gopi and Dileep will play the role of Mohanlal’s younger brothers and Arjun will play a character with negative shade. Model turned actress Parvathy Melton will do a cameo.

Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) has said that Christian Brothers should be banned as they believes a film with a superstar should not go beyond Rs 3.5 crores and filming should be completed in 45 days of time. The film roll should not exceed 60,000 feet.

KFPA feels that Christian Brothers is a big budget film and its cost will exceed Rs 3.5 Crore hence they are banning it.

The film is scripted by Siby K Thomas and Udayakrishna.

Lyric by Girish Puthenchery and music is by Suresh Peters. Manoj Pillai will wield the camera.

The film is expected to be shot in a single schedule of fifty days and will have March 2010 release. Christian Brothers is produced by A V Anoop and Subair under the banners of Varanchitra Bigscreen and AVA Productions.

Mammootty and Prithviraj are brothers in Pollachi Raja

Mammootty who is known for promoting talents will once again partner with Prithviraj in the movie Pollachi Raja which was earlier titled Pokkiri Raja. Mammooty introduced directors Blessy, Lal Jose, Anwar Rasheed and Amal Neerad. He also introduced and backed many comedians like Bijukkuttan, Suraaj Venjarammood etc.

Mammootty played a character named Bellary Raja in the super hit Rajamanikyam. In this film mega star is getting ready to enact another Raja character, Pollachi Raja.

Prithviraj who became an integral part of Malayalam films have proved to be a solo hero with the success of Puthiya Mugham. He will be seen as Mammootty’s brother in Pollachi Raja in which he replaced Narain. Prithvi’s character will be Sudhi. Planned with Narain this change is due to the clash of dates that Narain had, since his big project in Tamil Pookkada Ravi is not completed.

This is the second time Prithviraj is getting a chance to share the screen with Mammootty. Their first outing was with Bipin Prabhakar directed One-way Ticket, which didn’t fare well at the box office. Prithviraj was seen as jeep driver who is an ardent fan of superstar Mammootty. Mammootty did a cameo role in the movie.

Casting is brought by debutante director Vaishakh Abraham, who will start directing the stars from January.

Director Vaishak was earlier a television anchor and associate of directors Johnny Antony and Joshy.
The filmmaker is on the look out for two suitable heroines for this movie.

Sibi K Thomas Udhaya Krishna team is in the scripting department and P. Sukumar will be in charge of the camera. Jassie Gift will score the music.
Other crews are to be decided.

Produced by Tomichchan Mulagupaadam under the banner of Mulagupaadam Films it will be distributed by Mulakupadam release. Pollachi Raja will be the Vishu offering of Mammooty and Prithviraj.

Film star : Dileep and Kalabhavan Mani

Kunchako Bobban took a long leave from industry after he acted in Saji Nanthyattu produced Five Fingers. Months later Kunchakko was seen in the film Lollypop directed by Shafi in which he co-acted with Prithviraj.

The director of Five Fingers Sanjeev Raj is getting ready to start his new project titled Film Star. Film Star is a satire based on the lives in film industry and how outsiders watch this world with awe and is influenced. Director Sanjeev Raj seems to be obsessed with the word ‘F’ for his films.

Film Star will feature Kalabhavan Mani as a multilingual movie star while Dileep appears as Nandha Gopan, an enthusiastic film lover.

The flick is scripted by S Suresh Babu; the movie will feature Jagathy, Suraj, Salimkumar, Biju Menon, Cochin Haneefa and Biju Kuttan in key roles. The shoot will commence by the 15th of December 2009. Film star will be shot at Palakkad, Chennai and Hyderabad.

This flick is produced by Appu Pattathanam and Sanjeev Raj in the banner of Wide screen entertainments.

Azhagappan is the cameraman, Suresh Kollam is Art director and PC Mohanan will be the editor of the movie.

Cousins : Mohanlal teams with Prithviraj

With his moves Prithviraj carved a niche for himself and now its time everyone started accepting him. Pritviraj was seen in the flick One Way Ticket with Mammootty last year as a crazy fan of his. In the recently announced movie Pokkiri Raja which will also have Prithvi teaming with Mammootty as his brother, the long awaited film with Mohanlal and Prithviraj has started rolling, almost.

Lal Jose is the director of this venture. This will be the first time both the actors come together for a movie. Iqbal Kuttipuram of Arabikatha and Four the People fame will script for Lal Jose.

In Pokkiri Raja, Prithviraj plays the role of Mammootty's younger brother. The elder brother runs away from home and becomes a don, whiles the other stays at home and turns into a local goon. Years later, the two meet in a big city and adrenalin rush is paced, both do not know that they are brothers.

Prithviraj is cashing on the big stars and is on a run to change the facet of Malayalam cinema. He has a handful of good movies with the responses evoked by Puthiyamugham and Robinhood.

Cousins is produced by Gopan Chennithala in the banner of Bhagya Chithra combines, the movie is expected to start its production by January 2010.

Senior Mandrake : Sequel to Junior Mandrake

This is season of sequels. After the gigantic success of 2 Hariharnagar, many producers see making sequels to hit films less risky than making a new film. They believe the brand created by original will help them to cash in. Behind the scenes sequel to Nadodikattu to C.I.D Moosa are slowly taking shape.

Director Ali Akbar's film, Junior Mandrake which was made in a thin budget did very well years ago. Now the team is back to repeat the success with a sequel.

Original film was about a sculpt which everyone believed to bring ill fate to the possessor. The comedy worked well in that film which made it a hit.

Senior Mandrake will feature most of the star cast of the original besides a new set of characters. This movie will include Jagathy, Jagadeesh, Indrans, Mamukkoya, Kalpana and Kochu Preman seen with new generation comedy stars like Suraj Venjaramoodu, Salim Kumar, Bijukuttan and Jaffer Idukki.

Senior Mandrake is produced under the banner M & S Productions by Mummy Century who is also a director.

sreesanth thrown way his dark face through 6 wickets

In a busy day of Test cricket yesterday India took command against Sri Lanka, New Zealand stayed ahead of Pakistan and Australia and West Indies shared the honours on day one.

The India pace bowler Sreesanth took 5 for 75 in Sri Lanka's first innings in the second Test in Kanpur to make a memorable comeback to the national team after 19 months away during which he made headlines more for his boorish behaviour than his bowling.

Sreesanth finished the day with six wickets as Sri Lanka were 57 for 4 in the second innings after following on. His swing bowling helped dismiss Sri Lanka for 229 in the first innings before they slumped again. India made 642 after batting first.

Umar Akmal, just 19, hit a Test century on debut for Pakistan in Dunedin yesterday to save his side after they had been 85 for 5 in reply to New Zealand's 429. Akmal's 176-run partnership with his brother Kamran, who made 82, was the highlight for Pakistan who finished on 307 for 8.

In Brisbane, Simon Katich led the way with 92 as Australia reached 322 for 5 at stumps. Ricky Ponting and Michael Hussey both hit half-centuries as Kemar Roach (1 for 50) and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo (2 for 66), chipped in. Opener Shane Watson fell for a duck after shouldering arms to the day's 13th ball.

Kappal muthalali enjoying kerala

The director who specialises in making Slapstick comedies Thaha is back to business with the new movie titled as ‘Kappal Muthalali’. Featuring popular television and stage star Ramesh Pisharaady as the hero, the movie will give space to Sarayu to play the female lead of the movie. Ramesh Pisharaady, a great timer of comedy debuted into cinema with an important role in V K Prakash's ‘Positive’, which sadly went unnoted.

Apart from its relatively fresh lead stars Thaha will support the cast with big names like Mukesh, Jagadheesh, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Jagathy Sreekumar, Jaffer Idukky, Biju Kuttan, Salimkumar, and Bheeman Reghu. Thaha had been successful in creating slapstick from the very beginning of his career with hit films like ‘Mookilla Rajyathu’, Varabhalam and Ee Parakkum Thalika. But of late, his movies like ‘Hailasa’ and ‘Thekkaekara’ super fast didn't yield the expected results at the Box Office.

Neelathamara [2009] lal jose film

Neelathamara

“Neelathamara is my renewed Confidence” (Sreejith Guruvayur)
If I were to get the state level selection that I was sure in the 10th standard,
I would have been on a cricket pitch instead of chiseling the faces of
characters for the silver screen!
Now look where I am and where is that school
cricket team captain who could not think of anything
other than Cricket!! That is Life….
and I am more than happy about what I achieved than what I did not…
Neelathamara for me is the reiteration of confidence in my own craft and art,
and that has been made possible by my mentor, director Lal Jose.
He came to my life when I was going through the worst period both
professionally and personally.
And the film `Classmates’ gave me the spirit to pull ahead in life.
Though some of you who read this may feel that what I say is very personal;
Let me tell you, if anything is worth mentioning it is my association
with this director and his courage to showcase new talents to the
mainstream industry I was idling away my time after tenth as
I was quite dejected with life. I used to be popular in and around
my hometown as a growing cricket talent.
My dreams progressed steadily as I was selected in school and
won matches for school.
I did not feel guilty of leaving important academic sessions for
cricket as my school authorities promised that my plus two-
admission is guaranteed.
By some prejudice I was denied admission where I hoped to get in.
My sporting talent was overlooked and I did not get any special preference…
One of my relatives who worked in films suggested that
I could get some occupation in film industry
and landed in the job of a make up assistant.
I have been fortunate enough to get training under
excellent craftsmen like Pattanam Rasheed and Pattanam Shah.
Pattanam Rasheed gave me a clear idea about
the creative contribution of a make up artist
in the total process of film making.. When Lal sir
called me to be in-charge of the make up department of `Mulla’
I was clear about what he expects from me.
I was watching myself throughout the shooting of Mulla.
At the time of preparations for Neelathamara,
I knew that he has confidence in me but I have to deliver
more than what he expects.
The difficulty in my work is the lack of factual understanding
about growth of make up industry outside Kerala and India.
Very few people in our industry have the awareness of new
techniques and technology in make up which is growing
at a supersonic pace.
Our industry is struggling hard to keep up with the
changes outside as we spent very less amount of
total film budget for new materials and techniques
related to make up.
Here in Neelathamara I have got the golden opportunity
to practice my art and craft using newer materials and
techniques.
When you see the film you will come across same actors
doing roles at the beginning and end of a time span of
30 years. I now wish to learn more to take up greater
challenges.
I wouldn’t mind trying for overseas training say
for even a day … Don’t mistake my attitude!!! See…
Neelathamara has done wonders to my level of confidence…!

kerala gods own country

we will prove our that through this blog that is my aim.
